State Adoptions

Wyoming does not have a single, statewide building code. Instead, building codes are adopted and enforced locally by cities and counties. Most jurisdictions in Wyoming choose to adopt the International Codes (I-Codes) published by the International Code Council (ICC)—such as the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC)—often with local amendments to suit community needs. The state itself does not mandate adoption or enforcement, allowing each jurisdiction to decide which code editions to use and how to apply them. As a result, building code requirements can vary across Wyoming, making it important for builders and designers to check with local building departments before starting a project.
