Update on Southeastern Georgia Wildfires
Late last week, two wildfires ignited in southeastern Georgia, rapidly spreading across more than 80 square miles and destroying over 120 homes. Both fires continue to grow, and firefighters and emergency responders remain actively engaged in containment efforts.
For Those Affected:
We remind you of the importance of prioritizing your safety by following guidance from emergency management professionals. Stay informed, remain vigilant and, if advised, evacuate to protect yourself and your loved ones. We recognize that many local building departments will face increased demand for resources and will encounter a myriad of challenges as they support their communities.
ICC stands with our Georgia members and chapters. We are ready to assist with requests for support with:
- Post-disaster building safety assessments
- Supplemental staffing
- Additional resources for community recovery
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact:
- Cody Gunn, ICC Regional Manager, Government Relations (Georgia)
- Karl Fippinger, ICC Vice President of Fire and Disaster Mitigation
How You Can Help:
ICC urges code officials to coordinate all offers and requests for assistance through local emergency management. Please DO NOT self-dispatch or respond without an official request or activation order from local and state emergency management.
For those seeking ways to support recovery efforts, the following organizations are working directly with affected communities:
- American Red Cross of Georgia
- United Way of Georgia
- Atlanta Humane Society
- Georgia Forestry Commission
- Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency
ICC is here to support you. Whether you’re directly impacted or simply looking for ways to help, know that you’re not facing this alone.
