Update on Washington State Wildfires

Over the weekend, multiple fast-moving wildfires ignited in and around Spokane, Washington, rapidly spreading through several communities and prompting widespread evacuations. As of August 4, the Old Trails Fire, Autumn Lane Fire and Fairview Fire have collectively destroyed more than 700 structures and forced approximately 67,000 residents to evacuate.

Firefighters and emergency responders remain actively engaged in suppression efforts as challenges including drought conditions, strong winds and low humidity continue across the region.

For Those Affected:

The International Code Council extends our support to the residents, community members and businesses impacted by these devastating wildfires, as well as to the firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency managers, building safety professionals and other first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property.

Prioritize your safety by following guidance from local emergency management officials. Stay informed, remain vigilant and, if advised, evacuate to protect yourself and your loved ones. We recognize that local building departments will face increased demands for resources and significant challenges as they support response, recovery and rebuilding efforts.
