International Code Council’s Mark Johnson Appointed President of RESNET’s Board of Directors
Johnson will amplify RESNET’s mission to create and maintain residential energy efficiency standards
Washington, D.C. – Mark A. Johnson, Executive Vice President of Content and Services for the International Code Council, has been appointed President of the Residential Energy Services Network’s (RESNET) Board of Directors. As President, Johnson will work with other board members to maintain the strategic vision of the organization and continue to advocate for the communities it serves.
“It is an honor to serve RESNET and the building safety industry as we work together to improve energy efficiency and the performance of residential construction,” said Johnson. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue building upon years of successful collaboration between the Code Council and RESNET in the areas of training, certification, standards development and code compliance.”
Johnson has served on the RESNET board since 2017 and was instrumental in developing the memorandum of understanding between the Code Council and RESNET. He has been with the Code Council for over 30 years in positions such as President of ICC Evaluation Service and Director of Business Development.
“At the Code Council, we encourage our staff to get involved and support the missions of likeminded organizations to strengthen the building safety industry as a whole,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “Mark has played a vital role in the Code Council’s success, and we support him as he takes on this new challenge.”
RESNET is a recognized national standards-making body for building energy efficiency rating and certification systems in the United States and is a close partner with the Code Council. The two organizations have collaborated to develop several new RESNET American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards, update existing RESNET/ICC standards, and create a new certification designation, the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)/Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Compliance Specialist.
“For years, RESNET and the Code Council have collaborated successfully on the development and publication of joint ANSI standards, helped educate code officials on the value of the HERS Index, and raised awareness on how to improve energy code compliance,” said Steve Baden, RESNET Executive Director. “Mark’s previous experience as Vice President on the RESNET Board of Directors and years of experience at the Code Council will help propel our organization forward and strengthen the collaboration between the Code Council and RESNET.”
