Code Council Board of Directors President William D. Dupler (pictured) officially opened ICC’s 2012 Annual Conference this morning in Portland, Oregon. He was joined by guest speakers Rafael Moure-Eraso, Chairperson of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, Congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman, and Patrick Allen, Director of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, which includes the state’s Building Codes Division.

Plenty of events are on tap for this year’s conference, including tomorrow’s Annual Business Meeting and the Group A Final Action Hearings. Follow them online and in this daily newsletter, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

 

Fowler Motorcycle Ride Rumbling 420 Miles in the Scenic Northwest

The 9th Annual Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride, which benefits the ICC Foundation Code of Honor Scholarship Program, was held Oct. 20-21 in Portland during the 2012 Annual Conference. Saturday participants rode 220 miles into western Washington along the Columbia Gorge with views of Mount St. Helens, across the "Bridge of the Gods" and over Mount Hood back into Oregon. Sunday participants rode 200 miles west to the Pacific Ocean, having lunch in historic Astoria, Ore.

Building Official Membership Council Discusses cdp ACCESS

The Bulding Official Membership Council votes during its annual meeting at the 2012 Annual Conference in Portland, Ore.

Chair Steve Shapiro led the Building Officials Membership Council meeting and conducted elections for the Governing Committee. All seven candidates nominated – William “Jeff” Beictel, Alan Boswell, Frank Hodge, Jerry Mallory, Scott McDonald, Tom Allen and Jimmie Deer were elected.

Fire Service Membership Council Re-elects Two Seats

The Fire Service Membership Council holds its annual meeting at the 2012 Annual Conference in Portland, Ore.

In Chair Fulton Cochran’s absence, Vice Chair Jackie Gibbs presided over Sunday’s meeting of the Fire Service Membership Council which began with the re-election of two at-large members - Scott Adams of the Park City Fire Protection District in Utah and Jeff Shapiro of International Code Consultants of Texas - to the Governing Committee.

PMG Official Membership Council Nominates Four to Seats

The PMG Official Membership Council Governing Committee nominated four individuals for seats on the Council during the ICC Annual Conference in Portland. Roger Rotundo, city of Phoenix; Carvin DiGiovanni, Association of Pool and Spa Professionals; Eileen Prado, Solar Rating and Certification Corporation; and William Funk, Cecil County, Maryland, were all nominated, but elections were not held due to lack of a quorum. A conference call will be scheduled for Council members to elect committee members.

Sustainability Membership Council Updates Resolutions on Encourage of IgCC, IECC in Communities

Sustainbility Membership Council discuss grreen and energy with Members.

The ICC Sustainability Membership Council held its second annual meeting during the ICC Annual Conference in Portland. The Council was unable to meet a quorum to hold a vote to elect new governing Council members; however, it provided an update on the resolutions encouraging adoption of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) and International Energy Conservation Code within state and local sustainability plans, as well as plans on advocating sustainability in the context of the built environment through establishing goals, creating a time frame, discussion of how to achieve them, and sustainability advocacy.

Global Membership Council Re-Elects Underwood and Reiss to Leadership Positions; Three Elected to Governing Committee

Geoff Mitchell of Australia (left), Greg Beste of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Michael Maenner of Philadelphia were elected new Members of the Global Membership Council Governing Committee.

Lynn Underwood was re-elected Chair of the ICC Global Membership Council Governing Committee (GMCGC) during its annual meeting yesterday in Portland, Oregon. Martin Reiss of Rolf Jensen Associates in Boston was re-elected Vice Chair. Three Members were added to the Governing Committee: Gregory Beste, Senior Forensics Architect for Halliwell Engineering Associates in Bluffton, South Carolina; Michael K. Maenner, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for the city of Philadelphia; and Geoff Mitchell, Managing Director of GMA Certifications and a Member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors, an ICC Chapter.
