Florida
State AdoptionsFlorida adopts its building codes through a centralized process overseen by the Florida Building Commission (FBC). Every three years, the Commission updates the Florida Building Code (FBC) using the latest editions of the national model codes—primarily the International Codes (I-Codes) published by the International Code Council—then integrates Florida-specific amendments to address the state’s unique hurricane, wind, flood, and energy requirements. Proposed changes go through public hearings and technical advisory committees before final adoption. Once approved, the updated Florida Building Code becomes law statewide, and local governments are required to enforce it uniformly, with only limited authority to adopt stricter local amendments that meet specific regional conditions and receive state approval.
The International Green Construction Code is voluntary for cities and counties and is an option of state owned, leased, operated and financed buildings. The International Property Maintenance Code is voluntary for cities and counties. Important Links |
