State AdoptionsThe State of Iowa imposes a combination of state-required codes and locally adopted codes. The state-adopted version of the 2015 IFC is required to be enforced for all occupancies statewide by state and local government enforcement agencies. Local jurisdictions have the option of adopting the remaining state-adopted codes or a stricter code as determined by the jurisdiction. The Iowa Building Code Bureau adopts the 2012 IECC and 2015 IBC, IRC, and IEBC, and requires them when: The construction is for a building owned by the State of Iowa. The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing documents their requirements here: https://dia.iowa.gov/licensing/building-code. The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Code Advisory Council is responsible for the adoption of the state plumbing and mechanical codes. See their latest updates here: https://hhs.iowa.gov/pmsb/iowa-code. They have amended the 2021 IMC. Portions of their current code are taken from the 2021 IPC. |
