Grow your knowledge and expertise with the most comprehensive building safety education sessions. Education sessions take place Tuesday, September 13, in Louisville. Please see below for session times and descriptions. Education sessions will be on a first-come first-serve basis, be sure to arrive early to ensure a seat.
Building Tours are available on Sunday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 13 (sign up for these tours during the registration process). More information about these options is listed below.
CEUs
Your participation in ICC’s conference education sessions, building tours, and code hearing attendance, could earn you the following CEUs to help maintain or move forward to your next certification:
- Conference Education Program (Tuesday, Sep. 13) – Earn up to 6 hours or .6 CEUs
- Building Tours (Sunday, Sep. 11 & Tuesday, Sep. 13) – Earn up to 12 hours or 1.2 CEUs
- Annual Business Meeting (Monday, Sep. 12) – 2 hours or .2 CEUs
- In-person participation or attendance at the code hearings can earn up to 1.0 CEUs

Building Tours
Sunday, September 11 | 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum (Full Day – Walking Tour)
Experience the rich history of Churchill Downs Racetrack and learn about legendary Derby winners like Aristides and Secretariat as you visit the famous Paddock and Grandstand. You’ll make a stop railside at the track while your Guide shares stories of the early days of the Kentucky Derby through its transformation into the iconic event it is today. Churchill Downs spans 150 acres with 51 horse barns and stadium and dining seating for almost 55,000 people. Its most significant structure is the Twin Spires, an architectural feature originally constructed in 1875, which sits atop the grandstand and has become the universally recognized symbol for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.
Over time, the racetrack continued to grow and modernize by adding new barns, seating, and sprinkler systems. Other renovation projects include – clubhouse and barn improvements, and construction of the Matt Winn Turf Course and the addition of luxury suites, expansions and a new grand entrance. During our visit there will be two active new construction projects in progress. One is the Turn One addition and the other is a reconstructed and expanded paddock project. These provide significant challenges with a combination of code requirements from the IBC and the IEBC.
With two floors of interactive, family friendly exhibits, the Kentucky Derby Museum takes visitors through every stage of a Thoroughbred’s life, from birth to the First Saturday in May. Learn about all the great history of the race dating back to the inaugural running in 1875 to our most recent Kentucky Derby champion and experience all the traditions that have transformed the race into what it is today. Buffet Lunch is included.

Sunday, September 11 | Noon – 3 pm
Belle of Louisville River Boat Tour (HALF Day)
This narrated sightseeing cruise on the Mary M. Miller will cruise up the Ohio River. Learn about the founding of Louisville, hear about the history and importance of steamboats on the Ohio River and much more. Discover interesting facts about architecture and design along the way.
A $10 concession voucher as well as unlimited soda/water will be provided. Lunch will not be provided.
Transportation is not provided. The boat dock is located 0.3 miles from the convention center. Additional fee applies. This tour is limited to 150 people and is listed as an option when you register.

Louisville Slugger Museum (Half Day)
This world-famous tour now begins with a thrilling movie that transports you to the forests and mills where every Louisville Slugger bat begins. After that, walk through the heart of our factory production line and check out never-before-seen steps in the bat-making process including the creation of our fan favorite mini-bats. You’ll be pulled into the factory action with bigger monitors, better sound, and stunning new graphics that help tell the story of this legendary bat. At the end of the tour, you’ll get a free souvenir mini-bat in a newly revamped gallery that showcases quotes about Louisville Slugger from superstars like Babe Ruth, Roberto Clemente and Cool Papa Bell. Discover what it took for this Museum & Factory to open in July, 1996 after extensive renovations to what once was a tobacco warehouse.

Vintage Fire Museum (Half Day)
The Vintage Fire Museum in Jeffersonville, IN is nationally known. Its features include beautifully restored fire engines (hand pumpers, chemical engines, horse-drawn steamers, early motorized engines) and other equipment dating back to 1756! During this museum tour, you will discuss Fire Safety and discover a Safety Education Center. Learn about regional firefighting history and pay tribute in an area honoring firefighters who have given their lives in fighting fires. Tour the new fire safety exhibit rooms with electronic fire simulation equipment to help teach fire safety actions vividly.
