Mass Timber Webinar Series – 2021 IBC Tall Mass Timber Construction – Fire Safety

Historic changes to the 2021 International Building Code allow for construction of tall mass timber buildings with larger heights and areas than is currently permitted in Types III, IV, and V construction. This presentation provides an overview of fire safety provisions for new construction Types IV-A, IV-B, and IV-C. Provisions covered include sealants at abutting edges and intersections and redundant water supply systems. New criteria for concealed spaces for existing Type IV Heavy Timber construction will also be discussed. An overview of fire design for mass timber building elements and assemblies and connection protection will be provided.
