Call for International Energy Conservation Code Work Group Members

The International Code Council is currently accepting applications for voting members for the following Work Groups in the development of 2024 International Energy Conservation Code, Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code, and Chapter 15 of the ICC Performance Code. As with all ICC meetings, the Work Group meetings will be open to all participants, including both voting and non-voting members.  For more information in the development of IECC please visit the following link.

IECC Work Groups are formed to expedite the work of the IECC Consensus committees. Their formation (and later disbandment) requires approval by a majority vote of the committee and appropriate public notice. The scope and duties delegated to the Work Groups shall be approved at the time it is formed, and subsequent changes in scope or duties shall also require approval. The charge to the working groups include reviewing and making recommendations on code change proposals to the respective main committees, modifying code change proposals, and drafting new code change proposals. The final decision on all code change proposals rests with the main committees.

The following are the approved work group topic areas for each Committee.

Residential Committee:

  1. Envelope and Embodied Energy;
  2. HVACR and Water Heating;
  3. Electrical Power, Lighting, Renewable Energy Generation, and Storage;
  4. Economics, Modeling, and Whole-building Metrics;
  5. Existing Buildings;
  6. Consistency and Administration

The Work Groups will be made up of Consensus Committee Members and Interested Parties. The Work Groups will look to achieve balance amongst interest groups for voting members. Those include Government Regulator, Utility, User, Public Segment, Builder, Insurance, Designer, Manufacturer, and Standards Promulgator. No more than one-third of the voting committee will be made up by one Interest Category. Any stakeholder is welcome to apply and ICC membership is not required. Those not selected as voting members are welcome and encouraged to participate as non-voting members.

Due to the anticipated workload Work Groups should intend to meet two times a month. The committee will conduct business via conference calls and emails. However, if travel becomes necessary, ICC Governmental Member Representatives are authorized to travel at the Code Council's expense when participating at the meetings. All others are responsible for funding their participation on this committee.

Term: Continuous maintenance. Three-year terms with periodic review to allow for reappointment.
