International Code Council and International Association of Electrical Inspectors Launch Joint Electrical Certification Program

Members of both organizations will enjoy benefits from this enhanced program

Washington, D.C. – The International Code Council and International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) will be releasing an ICC/IAEI Electrical Inspector Joint Certification program on February 15, 2023. Certificate holders can expect to receive recognition in the U.S. nationally, experience increased job opportunities and improve mobility within the building safety industry.

“The ability to collaborate with IAEI and its expertise will ensure that this program is of the highest quality and is universally accepted within the building safety industry,” said Mark Johnson, Executive Vice President of Content and Services for the Code Council.

The exam will be offered through the Code Council’s Proctored Remote Online Testing Option (PRONTO) to individuals interested in becoming electrical inspectors, plan reviewers and those currently in the profession looking to advance in their field. The Code Council’s PRONTO examinations are available 24/7, can be scheduled up to 90 minutes in advance and utilize advanced exam security features. Additionally, it is convenient and easy to use – individuals can take many of the Code Council’s exams online from any secure location, and real-time results are provided upon test completion. Over 4,500 certifications have been earned through PRONTO to date, and this exam is the latest addition to the library of over 100 exams currently offered on the platform.

“This is a perfect example of the outstanding programs that can result from two construction safety organizations collaborating to enhance training through a joint certification of their members,” said Rudy Garza, President/CEO of IAEI.  “IAEI is proud to be affiliated with the globally recognized name of the Code Council.”

This joint electrical certification program in partnership with IAEI is the latest in the Code Council’s efforts to support the electrical industry. Adopted in all 50 states, NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®) is part of Code Council’s suite of codes and is the benchmark for safe electrical design, installation, and inspection to protect people and property from electrical hazards. The 2023 edition is available now and represents a significant revision to modernize the code to reflect the rapidly evolving electrical landscape.

International Code Council’s Mark Johnson Appointed President of RESNET’s Board of Directors

Washington, D.C. – Mark A. Johnson, Executive Vice President of Content and Services for the International Code Council, has been appointed President of the Residential Energy Services Network’s (RESNET) Board of Directors. As President, Johnson will work with other board members to maintain the strategic vision of the organization and continue to advocate for the communities it serves.

“It is an honor to serve RESNET and the building safety industry as we work together to improve energy efficiency and the performance of residential construction,” said Johnson. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue building upon years of successful collaboration between the Code Council and RESNET in the areas of training, certification, standards development and code compliance.”

Johnson has served on the RESNET board since 2017 and was instrumental in developing the memorandum of understanding between the Code Council and RESNET. He has been with the Code Council for over 30 years in positions such as President of ICC Evaluation Service and Director of Business Development.

“At the Code Council, we encourage our staff to get involved and support the missions of likeminded organizations to strengthen the building safety industry as a whole,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “Mark has played a vital role in the Code Council’s success, and we support him as he takes on this new challenge.”

RESNET is a recognized national standards-making body for building energy efficiency rating and certification systems in the United States and is a close partner with the Code Council. The two organizations have collaborated to develop several new RESNET American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards, update existing RESNET/ICC standards, and create a new certification designation, the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)/Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Compliance Specialist.

“For years, RESNET and the Code Council have collaborated successfully on the development and publication of joint ANSI standards, helped educate code officials on the value of the HERS Index, and raised awareness on how to improve energy code compliance,” said Steve Baden, RESNET Executive Director. “Mark’s previous experience as Vice President on the RESNET Board of Directors and years of experience at the Code Council will help propel our organization forward and strengthen the collaboration between the Code Council and RESNET.”
