International Code Council Releases New Revit Add-In to Help the Design Community Streamline Schematic Design Workflows
Washington, D.C.– The International Code Council announced the release of the ICC Digital Codes Premium Revit® Add-In. The new add-in allows architects, designers, engineers and building safety professionals to access and reference building codes and standards directly from within Autodesk Revit.
“We’re very pleased to provide Revit users with a tool that helps minimize time to construction,” said Joan O’Neil, Chief Knowledge Officer for the Code Council. “Until now, architects and engineers have had to look through multiple code books or switch back and forth with various resources in a separate browser. With this new add-in, design professionals can use the codes as they work, without interrupting their workflow.”
The Open API integration provides side-by-side access to ICC Digital Codes Premium, enabling design professionals to validate construction plans with authorized building codes and standards during the design process itself.
The Revit Add-In provides full features and functionality of the ICC Digital Codes Premium browser version. Design professionals can:
- View content in each title directly within Revit
- Perform advanced searching and save searches
- Create bookmarks and favorites, and use Quick Access tools
- Copy, paste, and print codes
- Use hyperlinks to quickly find and read support materials
- Create notes that can be organized and migrated to various code editions
- Highlight and annotate code sections
“We know our architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) customers are looking for better ways to validate their designs that will help expedite time to construction,” said Jim Quanci, Senior Director, Developer Advocacy at Autodesk. “Integrating access to building codes and standards from the Code Council directly while inside Revit is a real game changer. “
The add-in is compatible with Autodesk Revit 2023, Autodesk Revit 2022, and Autodesk Revit 2021 on 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 10 or Windows® 11 operating systems and is available on both the Code Council website and the Autodesk App Store.
ICC Digital Codes Premium Revit Add-In is available to existing Premium Complete subscribers. To learn more, visit https://codes.iccsafe.org/revit.

International Code Council and Code Enforcement Officer Safety Foundation Develop Credential of Learning Achievement on Code Official Safety
Washington, D.C. – The International Code Council recently launched its first credential dedicated to the safety of Code Official personnel. The Code Official Safety Credential of Learning Achievement (CLA), developed in collaboration with the Code Enforcement Officer Safety Foundation (CEOSF), will educate code officials and inspectors in all disciplines with officer safety skills that set the standard in the code enforcement profession.
The Code Official Safety CLA assessment will be offered via the Code Council’s Proctored Remote Online Testing Option (PRONTO), which will verify subject matter comprehension and competency. The Code Council’s PRONTO examinations are available 24/7, scheduled up to 45 minutes in advance and utilize advanced exam security features.
The assessment will be based upon training that has been developed by CEOSF, who is an ICC Preferred Education Provider. The Code Official Safety Specialist (COSS) training is comprised of five courses totaling 15 hours of officer safety training. The CLA is granted to those individuals who successfully complete the five training courses and pass the Code Official Safety assessment.
“We are committed to supporting those individuals who dedicate their careers to ensuring that our buildings and communities are safe,” said Dominic Sims, CBO, Code Council Chief Executive Officer. “The Code Council and CEOSF have a shared commitment to promoting the safety of code officials, and our combined efforts to develop this new CLA will provide further resources to support the profession.”
The Code Council and CEOSF joined forces in May of 2021 to expand career development resources for the safety of code officials and increase collaboration between the two organizations. Their united efforts promote best practices for the safety of code officials, providing up-to-date training that encourages the highest standard of professionalism throughout the building safety community and recognizing code enforcement professionals that have paid the highest price to protect their communities.
“Since last year, the Code Council and CEOSF have continued to collaborate together to improve the safety of code officials across the globe. This CLA sets the standard for personnel safety training in our profession. The topics covered in this training are pertinent to all code professionals, whether they work in the field or in the office. CEOSF is excited to provide important and relevant safety training for this new CLA assessment,” stated Justin Edson, CEOSF President.

International Building Code Development and Research Organizations Issue Global Building Resilience Guidelines
Washington, D.C. – The Global Resiliency Dialogue, a collaborative forum comprised of representatives from the International Code Council, the Australian Building Codes Board, the National Research Council of Canada, and the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, has published the Global Building Resilience Guidelines. The guidelines are the culmination of a three-year effort to share knowledge and research outcomes that inform how to best integrate climate science into building codes.
The Global Building Resilience Guidelines are comprised of a series of high-level principles for jurisdictions around the world to consider. This includes how to create or update building regulations to ensure that new buildings will be resilient to hazards such as typhoons and wildfires during their lifetime. Non-technical and non-prescriptive, the guidelines explore which principles resonate most on a local level and how to implement them efficiently and successfully within building regulatory systems.
The Global Resiliency Dialogue was launched in late 2018 to address the challenges of increasing intensity and frequency of natural hazard events over the past decade, along with the higher cost of damage sustained by buildings. These concerns are common to all contributors to the Global Resiliency Dialogue, whose mission is to create resources that can support policymakers, building safety codes and standards writing bodies, the design community, and regulatory officials in jurisdictions around the world.
“We know that resilient buildings can help save lives in the event of a disaster. Increasing the resilience of our buildings also helps to reduce the costs and disruption caused by rebuilding and relocation,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “The Code Council’s global building safety mission includes thought leadership and the sharing of our knowledge and solutions, especially through collaborative platforms like the Global Resiliency Dialogue. We are proud to be part of the collaboration that produced the Global Building Resilience Guidelines that will help protect vulnerable populations around the world.”
The guidelines are available as a free download at www.globalresiliency.org.
