  • Code Council Members Elect Board Officers, Directors.

    Code Council Voting Members elected Board Officers and Directors during the organization’s Annual Business Meeting at the 2016 Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo. Voting Members also elected representatives to sectional and at-large positions on the board.

  • ICC-ES and Innovation Research Labs Create One-Stop Testing, Listing, and Product Evaluation Service for Product Manufacturers.

    ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and Innovation Research Labs have entered into a cooperation agreement in order to better serve the manufacturers of building, energy and PMG products and materials. This relationship enables ICC-ES to bring testing, evaluation, and listing under “one roof,” essentially creating a “one-stop” conformity assessment agency. A key benefit will be the availability of a front-end test plan, agreed upon by all parties, which will speed up the listing and evaluation report process.

  • ICC Prepares for Hurricane Matthew.

    As communities along the East Coast prepare for Hurricane Matthew, the International Code Council is also preparing to assist its Chapters and Members. Today, the Code Council is organizing a conference call to brief ICC Chapter leaders and disaster-response coordinators from all East Coast states on ICC’s Disaster Response Network, ICC resources and additional support available to affected jurisdictions. When activated, the ICC Disaster Response Network mobilizes volunteers to help jurisdictions perform building damage assessments, building inspections and other code-related functions in disaster areas.

  • U.S. Federal District Court Clears Path for ICC Copyright Complaint against IAPMO.

    A Federal Court on Monday cleared the path for ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) to proceed with its copyright infringement complaint against the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, Inc. (IAPMO) when the court denied IAPMO’s motion to have the case dismissed. In a 25-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan struck down IAPMO’s arguments to dismiss ICC-ES’ Federal copyright claims as “unavailing,” noting that side-by-side comparisons of ICC-ES’ copyrighted materials with IAPMO’s allegedly infringing works that were presented to the Court as evidence along with ICC-ES’ complaint, “could permit a reasonable observer to conclude that appropriation occurred.”

  • ICC Board Solicits Feedback on the ICC Code Development Process.

    In 2015, ICC entered into a new agreement with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers to develop the 2018 International Green Construction Code. As a result, hosting a Group C code development cycle was not necessary. Since then, ICC has received numerous suggestions on what to do in 2017 since there would not be any code development hearings. Read more.

  • Voting Procedures Available for the Group B Public Comment Hearings.

    The Public Comment Hearings in Kansas City, Mo., are the first step in the process to determine the Final Action on 2016 Group B code changes — Public Comment Hearing voting followed by the Online Governmental Consensus Vote utilizing cdpACCESS. Click here for a summary of the voting procedures published on page iv of the posted Public Comment Agenda, specifically noting how the final action will be determined.

  • ICC Adds to Calls for Committees for New Polyurethane Foam Plastic Insulation Standard.

    ICC has submitted PINS to ANSI to announce the development of a new standard entitled ICC 1100 – Standard for Spray-Applied Polyurethane Foam Plastic Insulation. As noted in the PINS submittal, construction codes have requirements for thermal resistance of insulating materials but currently include limited material standards for certain types of insulating materials.   • NYC Adopts Energy Rating Index Compliance Path.

    New York City joined the ranks of states and municipalities that have adopted the Energy Rating Index, a new compliance path introduced with the 2015 version of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The voluntary ERI option relies on the Home Energy Rating System, which assesses projected energy use in homes and offers a score that conveys energy efficiency. Section R 406 of the 2016 New York City Energy Conservation Construction Code will go into effect Oct. 3.

  • ICC Calls for Committees Provide Opportunities to Serve.

    Volunteers are one of the most important assets of the International Code Council. Their work on the ICC Board of Directors, committees and councils is directly related to the success of ICC. It takes the time and expertise of many individuals working through the numerous ICC committees to shape the Code Council into the world-class membership organization that exists today. Various Calls for Committees have just been posted and provide another opportunity to serve.

  • ICC Board of Directors Candidates Website is Active.

    The Code Council hosts a website for candidates seeking election to the 2016-17 ICC Board of Directors.  Candidates can submit information to be posted on the website for the Membership and Nominating Committee to review.  The Nominating Committee’s report to the Membership also will be posted on the site after nominees are determined.  Board elections will be held during the Annual Business Meeting at ICC’s 2016 Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

  • Deadline to Validate Voters is Sept. 19.

    ICC Primary Representatives must validate their Governmental Member Voting Representatives by Sept. 19 to vote at the 2016 Annual Business Meeting, Group B Public Comment Hearings, or the online Governmental Consensus Vote that follows the hearings. The Electronic Voter Validation site will remain open through Sept. 19. Questions can be emailed to ICC Membership Services ( or call 888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233), ext. 33804.

  • ICC-ES Seeks to Fill Openings on the PMG Listing Committee.

    The ICC Evaluation Service is seeking to fill openings on the ICC-ES PMG Listing Committee, for the term starting Nov. 1, 2016, with qualified individuals who will evaluate proposed listing criteria prepared by staff concerning PMG listing products. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 31, 2016.

  • President Proclaims May as National Building Safety Month.

    President Obama has proclaimed May 2016 as National Building Safety Month in the United States, encouraging citizens, government agencies, businesses, non-profits and other interested groups to join in activities that raise awareness about building safety. He also calls for all Americans to learn more about how they can contribute to building safety at home and in their communities. Read more.

  • Third Edition of ANSI-Approved National Green Building Standard Now Available.

    The ICC/ASHRAE 700-2015 National Green Building Standard™ has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is available for public use. First published in 2009, the NGBS sets the bar for sustainable and high-performance residential construction and provides a pathway by which builders and developers may seek third-party certification of their new homes, developments and remodeling projects.

  • Fostering Water Conservation and Efficiency in our Communities.

    Water sector organizations including the Code Council are participating in several events April 10-16 in Washington, D.C., as part of Water Week 2016. The purpose of the observance is for organizations and industry professionals to advocate for national policies that advance clean and safe waters to ensure a healthy environment. The ICC Family of Companies has several resources available to assist jurisdictions, manufacturers and the public with water conservation and efficiency. Read more.

  • 2016 Group B Online Code Change Modifications Open.

    In the 2015 code development cycle, ICC implemented new procedures that required all modifications to code changes to be submitted online. cdpACCESS is now open for modification submittals. As in the past, the process remains unchanged in terms of how the modifications are introduced and considered at the 2016 Committee Action Hearings, April 17-27, in Louisville, Ky. The only change is how they are submitted, posted and displayed in the hearing room. Click here for instructions. A video tutorial also is available on YouTube. ICC will conduct a webinar illustrating the process on April 11 at 11:00 a.m.

  • Group B Hearing Schedule Now Available.

    The schedule for the 2016 Group B Committee Action Hearings, April 17-27, in Louisville, Ky., is now available for download. The Group B International Codes include administrative provisions for all codes, the structural chapters in the International Building and Existing Building Codes, the building and energy chapters in the International Residential Code, and all chapters in the International Fire, Energy Conservation Code and Wildland-Urban Interface Codes.

  • Bringing Water Efficient Products to Market and Spreading the Word About the Need for Smart Water Use.

    Although 70 percent of our planet is covered with water, less than one percent is drinkable. Recent events such as the Flint, Mich., water crisis and drought in the western United States are shining the spotlight on a growing global issue.   • ICC World Water Day Events Shine the Spotlight on Growing Global Issue.

    With a 100-year legacy of deploying the latest safety measures and technologies into the built environment, ICC is hosting and participating in several events surrounding 2016 World Water Day to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and efficiency. “For decades, ICC’s codes and standards have addressed water-related issues,” says ICC CEO Dominic Sims, CBO, “and we remain committed to working with our member jurisdictions and industry partners to bring water efficient products to market, labeling new homes and structures as more water efficient, and spreading the word about the need for safe and smart water use.”
